Step back to a time when railways were the lifeblood of Rookwood. This fascinating tour visits the graves of railway pioneers, the first train drivers Sixsmith and Twiss, the first guard Robinson and the Hudson family, while sharing stories of workers and the accidents that marked the early days of NSW Railways.
Discover how funerals of both humble and the great once travelled by train from Sydney's Mortuary Station at Regent Street to the grand sandstone Mortuary Station that stood within Rookwood. Until its closure in 1948, this unique railway stretched over 3km with four stations, making it one of NSW's lost railways.
