  • Rookwood General Cemetery

  • Explore Rookwood’s Anglican and Catholic sections and discover restored monuments and stories of Mitchell, Hordern, the Toohey family and more.

Continue your journey through Rookwood's history as we venture into the Old Anglican and Catholic sections, where newly restored areas reveal stories from the early 1800s. Here you'll find monuments relocated from Devonshire Street Cemetery in 1901 and uncover fascinating tales of notable figures including the man with his loyal dog, bibliophile David Scott Mitchell, retail magnate Anthony Horden and the influential Toohey family.

This walk offers a rare glimpse into Sydney's colonial past and the lives that shaped its future.
