Preserving heritage

Restoring and conserving heritage monuments, memorials, and architecture requires specialised expertise to ensure the longevity of historic stonework.

The Heritage Monument Team plays a vital role in preserving our shared cultural heritage. Working in close partnership with the National Trust, they follow strict heritage guidelines to restore monuments using conservation best practices in line with Australian standards and the provisions of the Heritage Act. Their work ensures that historically significant memorials are respectfully maintained for future generations.

Through collaboration with local councils and community groups, the team’s restoration efforts extend beyond our memorial parks, contributing to the care and preservation of heritage sites across the wider community.

The Heritage Monument Team offers a comprehensive range of services, including:

  • Monument repairs and conservation
  • Heritage lettering: v-cut, hand-painted and lead lettering (new and repairs)
  • Lime based stone conservation
  • War memorial assessments, repairs, and conservation work
  • Cemetery and monument safety assessments, surveys, and programmes
  • Other services also available upon request.

From iconic statues to historic buildings, the team's expertise spans a diverse range of projects—each one guided by a shared commitment to conserving cultural heritage for future generations.

This iconic landmark, built in 1894 from stunning Pyrmont sandstone, has been revived to its former glory after years of decay by our skilled stonemasons.

This extraordinary structure, renowned for its exquisite alabaster sarcophagus – one of only a few outside Europe – is a significant part of Australia's architectural and cultural heritage.

Listed on the state heritage register, the Frazer Mausoleum is a testament to Australia's rich history and architectural heritage.

Restoration of the Brewarrina Honour Roll

This project included removing the honour roll from concrete, completing repairs and fine letter re-painting by hand, and re-installing the finished work in bespoke framework near its original location.

Monumental Safety and Conservation Program

Across our memorial parks we have implemented a Monumental Safety and Conservation programs (MSCP). This program consists of safety surveys, emergency works and long-term safety repairs to improve monument safety across our parks. The proactive safety repairs follow heritage best-practices, and protects cemetery visitors and staff from injury, while also preserving the monuments from damage.

The MSCP has been recognised as industry leading and is being used in modelling and consultation to potentially expand the Australian Standards to include on-going monument safety programmes as part of standard cemetery maintenance.
